PCP Policy

Aims & Scope

Physiological Chemistry and Physics and Medical NMR is an open access, peer-reviewed journal publishing recent findings in a broad range of subjects including biophysics, biochemistry, and cellular physiology. Manuscripts containing material relevant to both basic science and direct applications to human medicine are invited. Examples of direct application to human medicine would include papers on conventional MRI imaging as it relates to human physiology and disease.

Open Access

All articles published in Physiological Chemistry and Physics and Medical NMR are made freely accessible online upon final acceptance. There are no fee-based subscriptions, and articles are permanently archived on this website in their full form. Scientific journals and listing services have permission to republish or reproduce, with credit, the titles, summaries, and abstracts of original material contained on our website. We believe in the open access philosophy to eliminate barriers to the advancement of science.

Publication Policies

The pages of PCP are accessible to competing viewpoints, interpretations, theories, and opinions. Criteria for evaluating submissions include scientific soundness of the study and clarity of presentation. It is our philosophy not to reject papers on the basis of interpretation or theory, however controversial. PCP believes that scientific issues should be settled by investigation and open debate, not by an appeal to anonymous authority or the status quo.Debate is invited via Editorial Comments and Letters to the Editor.

Peer Review Policies

All papers submitted for publication are refereed by reviewers in a double-blind fashion. This means that the reviewer is not privy to the name and/or affiliation of the author, and the author is not provided the identity of the reviewer. Authors are invited to suggest up to three (3) potential reviewers for their manuscript, with the exclusion of direct colleagues or collaborative partners of the author(s). The Editorial Board makes all final decisions with regard to manuscript acceptance. The Editorial Board also directly handles appeals from authors who feel their papers are unfairly reviewed.

The review process at PCP is quick and efficient. Authors submit manuscripts via a completely electronic process. Referees are given deadlines for submission of their reviews, and the average turnaround time from submission to publication is less than 30 days.

All aspects of the publication process are in accordance with the standards set forth by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org).

Article-Processing Charges

Due to the open access nature of our journal, we do not have paid subscriptions to support our publishing costs. As such, each article accepted for publication will incur a one-time article processing fee. The cost of this fee is $250USD and is due prior to online publication. We will consider waivers and/or discounts based upon economic hardship on a case-by-case basis. Intent to apply for an economic hardship waiver should be indicated at the time of manuscript submission. In addition, we will waive the article processing fee for invited publications.
